Meet Dr Shazia Khan

Two degrees, one promise: you are always at the centre.

Dr Khan trained twice over, first as a dental therapist and then as a dental surgeon, because she wanted both the preventative grounding of therapy and the full clinical scope of surgery.

She built The Smile Space inside Hayfields Mall to be the practice she felt was missing: thorough and up to date, genuinely calm, and honest with patients about what treatment can and cannot do, without ever making anyone feel rushed or in the dark.

Before you book

The questions we hear most.

Yes. The Smile Space is registered with most major South African medical aids, including Discovery Health, Bonitas, Momentum, Medihelp, GEMS, Polmed, Bestmed and Profmed. Our admin team will confirm what your specific plan covers before your appointment, so please bring your membership card.

Many of our patients arrive feeling anxious. It is far more common than you would think, and Dr Khan’s whole approach is built around it. We move at your pace, explain everything before we do it, and stop the moment you need a break. We cannot promise you will feel nothing, but we work gently to keep you comfortable, and we will never make you feel embarrassed for being nervous.

Of course. Caring for children is one of Dr Khan’s focus areas. First visits are unhurried and built to create familiarity rather than fear. We talk parents through what we are doing and why, and we will not recommend anything that is not genuinely necessary.

Costs depend on how many teeth are involved, the materials you choose and the complexity of your case, so we do not publish a flat rate. What we do promise is a full written quote after your consultation, before any treatment is confirmed, with no hidden additions once the work begins.

Shop 2A, Hayfields Mall, 28 Blackburrow Road, Pietermaritzburg, 3201. You will find us on the ground floor next to PEP Stores, with ample parking right outside. The practice is wheelchair accessible.
